Anointing Before Character

David recently returned to Colombia from a mission trip to Mexico.  He shared his testimony in Mexico that impacted both Christians and non-Christians.  It is amazing to see how God uses him despite having been kidnapped by his father, living in fear of the law, and losing his mother at the age of 12.

When David was about 2 years old, his father kidnapped him to try and get money from his grandfather.  His father was caught and went to jail for two years until David’s mother dropped the charges and asked him into their lives again.  His father moved in with his other “wife” and the two women, their children, and his father lived together.

David’s family moved often to avoid being caught by the law.  David says that he feared police officers because his family was always hiding from them.

David’s mother died when he was 12 years old.  Now, David is thankful that his grandparents fought for and gained custody of him, but at the time he was terrified because he didn’t know them.  When he was 15 years old, his math teacher shared the gospel with him.  The teacher knew things about him that no one else knew.  David realized that God had spoken to him.  That was the first-time David realized that God is real.  He started to attend church and grew in his faith.  When he started at the university, he shared his faith with his classmates.  He started some different Bible studies and was able to minister to over 60 university students.  God used him to win many to the Lord.  Unfortunately, even though David saw fruit in his ministry, he had a double life style and no one really helped him grow in his character.

David enjoyed sharing his faith and felt called to be a pastor.  That is why he decided to study at Christ for the Nations Colombia Institute.  He wanted to learn to preach better.  After coming to the institute, David realized that even more than learning to preach better, he needed to confront areas in his life that were not pure.  He allowed himself to be vulnerable and exposed his weaknesses so that God could heal him.  By having a mentor/accountability partner, he has confronted the ghosts from his past and is committed to walk a life in purity.   Furthermore, he has learned to form deep relationships for the first time.  He has allowed the people around him to see as he really is and encourage him to grow in every area of his life.

David is a joy to be around.  He is humble but at the same time fun.  When he comes into a room of friends, everyone feels like smiling.  He ministers with an anointing, but now he has the character and integrity that will allow him to pastor long term.
