Joy to the World

Joy with Pastors Jerry and Barbara

This is Joy Sambrano, a Global Missions graduate from Christ for the Nations Institute, Dallas (CFNI). Joy came to Medellín March 19, 2018 to complete her 15 week field school.

She had the opportinity of participating in a mission trip with Church on the Hill during spring break of 2017 and afterwards felt the need to come back for a longer period of time- in her words, “A week was not enough.” She took steps of faith and God opened the door for us to receive her!!

During her time here, it was our goal to help her get experience in different areas on the mission field as we know God has placed this calling on her life. She was able to settle in for a week and then joined our students on the mission to Manantiales and later served in the foundation Ciudad Refugio (City of Refuge) for four weeks. In Ciudad Refugio she was able to minister to women coming out of prostitution and also addictions with drugs and alcohol.

After being at Ciudad Refugio, Joy was able to serve on a farm for boys called Open Arms. She felt out of her comfort zone, as she isn’t quite the farm type of gal, but we knew this would help her grow in many areas. At the farm she  was responsable for waking the boys up in the morning, checking their cleaning, making sure they did homework, and being a mom to the boys. Joy says, “It was definitely out of my comfort zone, but I wouldn’t change it for the world and I’ll never forget those sweet boys.”

Joy will be joining our students on the trip to Amazons June 14-24- she is nervous but excited!! She has plans on going home for six months and hopes to be able to return and continue on the mission field here in Medellín with us for two years.

Joy says about her experience, “My time here in Medellin, Colombia has been vision changing. What I mean by “vision changing” is that I learned I can’t change the world within a 3 month time span. Helping at each foundation for a month, I was just barely scratching the surface of what missions really is. Being in Medellin and hearing the testimonies of the students, seeing the fruit from the dedication of Manderfields and Bekah has inspiried me to go after my dreams and the vision that God has given me. To make a long lasting impact on a city or a community it takes time and dedication to develop that dream so never give up.”
